Just got him from ichiban this morning REALLY good shipping and customer service. He's still settling in and sulking in the corner. He's bout 7 inches maybe a little more. He's in a ten gallon with 350 gph total current (circulates whole tank 35x an hour) going to up it soon with an penguin 400 or 350. This is my algae tank all three sides r covered so it provides fish with more security. Im trying chicxs method for interaction and less skittishness hence the small tank. Sorry for the bad pictures don't wanna turn any lights on its his first day here wanna reduce stress. First time keeping a payara any tips? Planning on adding a few goldfish tonight and tomorrow to make sure he's eating before i thaw out the tilapia. Thanks

Cool pick up but did you know it had one eyed before you got it.
Did you get a discount because of the one eye?

Yeah I knew it had one eye I got a large discount but he's still really cool. dont even notice the missing eye. im hoping itll make him less skittish since he can't see from that side

Nice snag! How long do you plan on keeping him in the 10? I haven't really experienced any skittishness with either of mine. Once they associate you with food, they become less skittish but you will love him!

Thanks! Probably less than a month tbh I just wanna test chicxs theory and give some of my other fish in my 75 a chance to get a little size just in case the armatus gets a little feisty his teeth are huge lol

I'm curious to see what will come of this. I'm not entirely certain that it is necessary with an armatus, however. They are generally much more steady of a fish when small than are ATF (the fish for which this trick was developed and for whom this trick is quite effective). Also, with the size of the fish, I'd go with a 20-30 gallon instead. I normally plop my 3-4" ATF in a 20 long. I'd be fine putting one that size in a ten, though; a 20L is all I have. For a seven inch fish to train this way, I'd use my 56 column tank.

I don't know if waiting for other growouts to get size before putting the armatus in will do any good. He'll probably gain on them anyways, they aren't slow growers by any means. Keep an eye on nitrates in that small of a tank, that's not a large volume of water to dissolve waste in.

Nice pickup, hope he settles in quickly for you!

Yeah plan is to do 50% water changes every other day when comfortable. I might add a floating plant or something we'll see. Rn he's a little skittish. He actually is settling in very well just ate a goldfish just a few minutes ago. Ate the same day he was shipped :)
