So the other night I was at my friends and we went to his neighbors for something and in his tank I saw festae that's about 3".i asked what size tank it was in he said 37 gallon. I was shocked so I asked him about it and he knew nothing about festaes and their size. I asked how long he had it. He said maybe a year or a little longer. I asked him if I could take because my tank is bigger he said okay because he didn't like it and it was getting picked on by the others.

So in short I have a 3" festae that's stunted. I have it in a 55 with my flowerhorn that's attempting to breed with it I assume lol.

What should I do? Keep it and see if it will grow or stay that size or bring it to my lfs

I'll add pics later when I get home. It looks to be in nice shape other than a few nippings on the tail

It should still grow just might not hit its full potential. And keep in mind a 3 festae in that tank shouldn't stunt it that bad.

Well that's kinda the reason I asked because my biggest tank is only 55 gallons and I'm not sure when I'd be able to upgrade or I could just let it get to size where it's too cramped in my 55 then go from

3" over a year is slow, even for festae. I would say stunted, but as someone already mentioned, it might still do a little growing. You could probably keep it in the 55 for life, but just be prepared for an upgrade if it hit 7-8".

I would also agree that a 37 gallon tank shouldn't have stunted the fish. My guess would be it has had poor water quality and/or diet that have resulted in such a slow growth.

Keep it in the 55 and grow it out. It should be able to grow to atleast 8" in that tank. Witch gives ample time to find a bigger tank or better home.

Alright thanks. I'm excited now because I regretted selling my last one. Now on to my next question what's the likely hood of it breeding with my flowerhorn? When I introduced it my fh kept flirting with it and stuff but no real aggression

Looks like a healthy female. If that fh is a male and fertile then there is a good chance they might try. I can't grantee anything though since I don't know much about fhs. Are her eyes big or look to big for her body size?
