Larva or something in water?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Planaria cannot leave the water. Planaria cannot jump. Planaria are not green. Planaria do not sit on top of the water. What is wrong with you people? Go check out a book about pond life and other macroorganisms and READ IT before calling every thing that isn't a fish a planarian. Seriously, stop this. You confuse the heck out of other misinformed people when you perpetuate this misinformation.

Geez. Angry much?!

I think they were just trying to help here although albeit, incorrect. I don't think you have to pull the "you people" line over this one.

Springtails are probably the best guess, a chitin inhibitor would probably kill them off but keeping the tank and filters clean with proper water parameters would probably naturally lower the numbers.

They're most likely overfeeding.

This ^^^ someone say there is something in theyre tank an right away no matter how the op describes it everybody jumps to say its planaria and won't except it to be anything else and it's not correct information!!!
I had the same thing as you OP
Green looking nats that would sit on top of water and fly out the tank when you open the lid and the larvae you could see in the water you don't have planaria you have what I had and I'm not even sure what they are still but I did water changes everyday lessened feeding and wiped down the inside of the tank everyday and they were gone with in 4 to 5 day

Yeah seriously! I've done numerous water changes and cleaned the filter thoroughly but they seem to be getting worse! The adults are everywhere and I'm afraid they will spread to my 55g or even worse my 125!

Put the tank outside (no fish in it) and completely sterilize it.Boil the filter and media (with the pump out of it) and pour boiling water in the tank.

Hey it's been a while and after multiple water changes every day the problem seems to be the same. No change except I did find a few flies in my 55g but I killed them. I'll post a pic of the water in the 10g

If you cant seem to solve the problem with a running tank (and won't tolerate the infestation) looks like you're going to have to drain it and clean it that way. luckily its a 10gallon so it shouldn't be TOO big of an inconvenience.
