My "normal" convict has the red in his tail, but this thread has me questioning his genetics now, I'd assumed he was pure convict.

+1 Not that it really matters though, it seems like cons have a tendency to produce fertile males regardless what you cross them to.Depending on who you go by a HRP is a convict just a subspecies or local. If this is so then HRP x average convict is not a hybrid but a mix of locals or strains. At most it is mixing very closely related sub species in which they are completely fertile the only difference being slight color differences and the HRP being a bit smaller at max size.

Yours is almost certainly an HRP. It looks like mine which are 100% HRPs. The pic shows female above, male below.
