Saw this little guy at a local petsmart... Its labeled as a red texas but i had heard on this forum not too long ago that some petsmarts were actually selling kamfa flowerhorns and were labeling them as red texas. Any thoughts? Also, if it is a res tex, whats the growth rate on these guys compared to regular cyanoguttatus and carpintis? Thanks!

Looks RT to me.

+1. Most Petsmart RT's are actually mislabeled and are either Red Dragon FH's or Kamfas. Occasionally you will come across an actual Red Texas (as seen above). Below is a picture of a Petsmart Red Dragon Flowerhorn that I purchased as a $7 Red Texas (which it clearly isn't).

Oh wow! Yeah clearly a flowerhorn, for 7 bucks though thats a nice little steal haha. So obviously the red texas in question is a low grade since its 6 bucks and at a petsmart, but what are the chances that it could blossom into something really beautiful? Or is that just unrealistic with a petsmart red tex lol

I think with places like Petsmart, it's really hit or miss. I've seen some really nice ones on here that came from there, but I've also seen some pretty bland/ugly ones too. The best thing you can do is grow it out to 6-8" and see what you end up with. That's what I'm doing with the above FH.

Well you may get one you like and is really nice but even then it will not be a top notch rt as the fish they offer are first generation crosses. The high dollar ones you see on sites are from several generations of breeding to perfect the rt line. Also there is a big difference between a rt and a super rt even though the highest end rt and lowest end super rt will look about the same. This is just my feelings on the issue others may feel differently.
