  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Small update.... More like a sneak peek of things to come. The tank is being leak tested, so put in some wood to soak in!

Aren't polleni pretty aggressive? I thought I read that paratilapia are best by themselves. Maybe that's just the other paratilapia.
They're really no more aggressive than your average CA cichlid. But to reduce aggression, I find that it's best to keep them in groups and in fact mixed with other species, such as Ptychochromis grandidieri and oligacanthus. I have 8 adult polleni (3M, 5F) along with 3 grandidieri, 2 oligacanthus, 2 menarambo, 1 dambabe, and 3 P. breidohri in a 180G. They all get along great.

A couple of these grew up in the tank from a spawn a year or so ago. So no, there is nothing special about 8. I started with 6, sold a trio off, and there are 3 originals left. I've since added a couple of pair from an earlier spawn too. I think the total is 9. Three or four in a 125G should be okay. Just make sure there is a fair amount of structure in there (driftwood, rocks, artificial plants) and you should be good to go.
