I was recently informed that my taxes would be going up and of course I wasn't happy about it.I heard that in some areas in New Jersey the taxes are as high as twenty thousand dollars.

paying 1% here in Northern VA of total assessed value: property and land. As far as I can tell, I'm not getting any services. My HOA fee covers my trash pick-up, and I pay all my public utilities.

Mine should be around $1,000 here in the Atlanta 'burbs but I won't know it'll be a bit above or below until I find out whether or not I get the Homestead Exemption. I get free dump privileges(3 miles away, up to 10 bags/week, about 2 to 3 X what we need except at Christmas, lol) The rest is for roads, schools, fire, police...

I hope you're not in Passaic County. They have the highest property taxes in the US, including Hawaii. My in-laws, in Clifton, own a small duplex on a 3/4 lot. Their taxes are over $15k this year. Mine in AL is less than $500 for a 2800 sq/ft ranch on 3 acres.

What a disparity!...There are some really nice areas in Jersey but I wouldn't have imagined they could out tax Hawaii.

I'm feeling pretty happy with my taxes about now. Not as happy as Oddball, but pretty happy, nonetheless. And just over half an acre to mow is enough for my rather beat-up body.
