how many of each do you have in there? i thought sun fish were cold water fish.

There is one oscar at about eight inches, one blood parrot at about five inches, two gold saums (one at about four inches and the other around three), two green texas at about two aand a half inches and the green sunfish is around three inches. I believe that sunfish can handle a very wide range of water temperatures but it is probably considered a cold water fish. He is the real dark one in the first pic.

They'll do fine under ice, but they prefer warm water. During the summer months, its common to find them in very shallow water, where its the warmest. That's why they are called sunfish I suppose......seems like they're basking in the sun.

Yeah, the sunfish is really interesting to watch. I previously said that the sunfish was around three inches but he is really around the same size as the green texas cichlids (two and a half inches), if not a bit smaller. He sure does stand his ground when they get near him though. I actually found the sunfish at petco while I was picking up some stuff. I just happened to glance into the feeder tank and saw about six of these guys hanging out with the minnows. I asked about them and the employee thought that they were tilapia, so I picked up all six of them for 15 cents each. A few died from disease and a few more jumped out the back of my twenty gallon tank, so this is the only one left. I was wondering though, have any of you ever kept sunfish with cichlids for any amount of time?

My friend kept Bluegills in a 200 with a bunch of Bala sharks of all things. He used to feed them baby mice. His house always smelt of rodents, bleh
