I feed my arowana variety of foods like silver side fish, peeled shrimp, chicken breast, beef heart, quarantined feeders. If I get the chance to catch an earthworm this coming rainy season I will definitely feed it.

This might not answer your question, but I've been making my own food ,with all the above mentioned foods combined.
Diy gel food is great. Just mix in whatever you have and top it off with night crawlers to stimulate appetite.

That's a great idea but I think it works better for bottom feeders like rays and large catfish.

You should switch from Tetra pellets to a better quality pellets (New Life Spectrum, Omega one, etc). FD shrimps don't have a lot of nutritional values, and crickets are nutritionally poor. High quality pellets should the main staple with shrimp and crickets as weekly treats.

Crickets are very nutritional when gutloaded with healthy foods like most feeders are. Gutloaded insects as a staple grow huge healthy aros ime. Have you had bad experiences with feeding crickets to your aros in the past?

I use to gut load crickets for my reptiles, but I didn't get the sense that the OP was gut loading them. But why go through the effort of gut loading when you can just give high quality pellets imho

+1 my Aro doesn't even like crickets. He would bite them and spit them out. I think Crickets should be used sparingly.

I use gelatin based home made food for all my fish, including my RTG. The RTG is with peacock bass. Although the gelatin based food sinks, they never get a chance to sink since the aro and the pBass take it off as soon as they hit the water. I don't think the sinking factor is an issue when feeding arowana. If the aro is hungry, anything that hits the water would not get a chance to sink. In my opinion the food should not be staying there more than few seconds once they hit the water. Otherwise your fish is not hungry.

Good quality pellet, chopped fish talapia, smelt etc are good suggestions. I also am a big fan of insect feeders , Meal worms and super worms, ideally gutloaded with fresh veggies. IMO a varied diet always yields the best results.

Avoid too much frozen shrimp or cooked shrimp, cooked shrimp has poor nutritional value compared to raw, but once frozen raw shrimp is very high in thiamese which leads to calcium deficiencies. Also avoid mammalian meats like beef heart, arowanas cannot break down the fats which then build up on the liver.

Hope that helps.

Freezing shrimp does not cause the amount of thiasimine to increase, but cooking does destroy it. It also does not cause calcium deficiency. It decreases the ability for the body to absorb thiamine /vitamin B1, hence its name. That affects the central nervous system.

Tilapia fillet, smelt, NLS pellets, and frozen bloodworms are what I feed to my bichirs and wolf fish. Once a week, I would throw in a couple dozen feeders as a treat :)
