I haven't any experience with Fowl or Nigri but from what I heard Nigri's tend to be more aggressive then Apu and Fowl's tend to be the least aggressive and least out going. Though I should state in advance being less aggressive doesn't necessarily mean less predatory.
So in my opinion the best compromise is the Apu and luckily is the one you're probably most likely to find available. My personal experience is they're pretty outgoing for an ambush predator, tolerating touch, eating from one's hand and generally being visible even with lights on. As far as tankmates if you do try it I would raise them from a young age with their tankmates and make sure that at the start the tankmates are larger top to bottom then the Apu's mouth and length wise at least an inch or two larger the the Apu himself. I have seen a large specimen Nigri on youtube being kept with Petenia Splendida which in my opinion is a great tank mate for the Apu considering their adult size and general swimming strata and peaceful disposition. They're also cool tankmates because they're another large mouthed predator to add to the display that'll be more visible and active, making the tank more appealing in my opinion. In the vid the Petenia look small enough to be eaten but either because the Nigri's well fed or because they've been comm'ed so long he seems to show no interest in them.
Here's a pic of my little guy in post quarantine container so I could make sure he was eating as well as the youtube with the large Nigri and Petenia.
