Girlfriend sent me this...Pretty Funny

Funny? Yes :) Cute? Yes. But seriously, why punish a fish for something you the fish-keeper have done? Moreover, as stated above, fish don't know right from wrong. They are instinct-driven biological machines. The keeper is responsible for everything "bad" that happens in their "artificially created mini underwater world".

It is not punishing them, just reconditioning them. Removing an aggressive fish and allowing the remaining fish to establish a new pecking order before returning the aggressive fish can sometimes avoid having to rehome said aggressive fish. Ideally you would place it in a spare tank or quarantine. If one is not available, I guess you can get creative. The bag is just a comical extreme and I assume the fish in the picture was posed for the purpose of comedic relief and returned to its tank. I think the comedy lies in that many of us care for our fish like they are our children and assign them human characteristics and feelings. Hence, if your child misbehaves and you give him/her a time-out...well, why not for our fish. But of course we know the picture is a joke and that a fish is a fish is a fish...OR IS IT?

Re-establishing dominance order appears an agreeable scenario, indeed.

The problem is that this was mentioned by someone down the thread and as such had no significance and it is unrelated to the OP, is all :) The OP is about a fish that ate other fish. That's no dominance/pecking order. That's "comming uncommable" fish :)

I don't wanna attack your gf (who you must defend, of course :) ). Just wanted to provide more angles this can be viewed at. I've had committed a plethora of "comming the uncommable" lapses of judgment myself.

This is what I was thinking, its meant to be funny, and really no harm done.

Don't take it too seriously.

All man! Alright, who went and sucked out all the fun?!?!

I've done that before with timeout when I was keeping SA/CA cichlids. Part of it was probably my fault as I did only have 5 or 6 good spots for 8 fish. But my ocellaris only got bothered once and the GT was the firemouth in question's buddy. But this little prick would beat up on everything, total napoleon complex being the smallest fish in the tank with the biggest balls. I got pissed after he ripped up my ocellaris' tail. 5 gallon bucket, huge 4 port aerator cold water and a couple of cubes of ice. Stuck it in there for 5 minutes. Put it back in the tank afterwards and ironically the two fish that the firemouth had it out for, 2 electric blue JD's, cuddled up next to it, kicking and warming the firemouth back up and it was fine. Never bothered another fish again.
