I would call it an early gang flick,

was an interesting flick but kind of campy.

ya, I Was actually gonna call it "gang -fantasy " but I thought it might get mis interpreted as something WAY different.. but I agree 100% about campy.. but this one is my fav of the genre that imo includes "death wish"

I saw The Warriors in the theater when I was a kid and I still enjoy watching it..don't know how I didn't mention it.I don't think it is in same genre as the Deathwish films though. They were more revenge flicks than gang movies.

do not see death wish as campy either, which leads me to.

the french connection, good movie also, this when crime flicks really started to get gritty and led to such TV shows as Starkey and hutch.
trailer for french connection. I saw this at the theater when it came out.

Gene Hackman at his best ,,,,,,,,you guys are right about genre,,,,,I tend to lump flicks together that might not really be similar

Know what ya mean..I saw Escape from New York in the theater years ago also and I tend to lump them both in the same genre but again,Escape is not really a gang flick.

true..... but it does have the same late 70's "NYC Is a big dumpster fire" feel...warriors , death wish and escape from ny,, every one gives that vibe
