/\well said.
unless its an intruder trying to cause your family harm they have too be put down, bad upbringing or phycotic mood swings being the reason or not...
i know of alot of youths who need to be put down too!

Well part of the issue is that every time a dog mauls anyone it's pit. Even if the picture is a black lab or golden retriever it's pitt mix. If the owner said DNA test were done and no pitt was found the media would still probably scream pit. So pitt owners and pitt lover are instantly on the defensive. If we aren't then Denver Co or the UK happens. Resulting in perfectly good dogs that did nothing wrong being destroyed because some half lit city admin wants to kiss his bosses *** and not actually address the issue. So yeah our first instinct is to defend the dog because experience shows that if we don't our innocent dogs get the needle.
Pitts from champion lines rarely do this. However what you have is ghetto fighting dog breeders that sell the low aggression puppies as pets. These dogs will have an inherent stability issues as they were breed for maximum aggression and for some reason just don't have the expected level of aggression. However they are now prone to snapping because the inherent high aggression brain chemistry is there but for what ever reason not active now. It's very much like having an improperly deactivated gas line. Both input and out put are capped off but someone forgets to purge the line. You now have a huge ticking pipe bomb.
In this case as much as it pains me putting the dog down is probably unavoidable and most likely most humane for all involved. As a dog rescuer there are simply dogs that can not be saved. This dog would tie up a top tier foster for it's life. This will result in many great dogs being destroyed due to the lack of a foster. An aggressive dog can not be around kids, an ill mannered friendly dog can be very easily trained. Unless a home can be found like the one on Pitts and Parolees his chances of finding anything are zero.
"A covenant" What a load of unadulterated horse ****. Someone breaks into my house and gets mauled there's not way in ****ing hell anything is happening to my dogs. I will drop 10k to fly the dog to a non extradition country is I had to, and yes I do have that lying around. You get bit by my dog after breaking into my house you deserved it. Not that this is what happened here and I'm not suggesting it did.
On the issue of inherently dangerous breeds pitts are marginally above angry Poms when you get to the real brutes. Massifs, Danes, Saints, Great Pyrs are all if poorly socialized far more dangerous. Then you get into the exotic giants namely Tibetan Mastiff and Caucasian Shepard and pitts are at the same level as rabid hamsters. The main difference are 1)Even meth addicted trailer trash aren't stupid enough to weaponize these breeds. 2)Rare and expensive they tend to be far more difficult to get. 3)The guardian and rescue breeds are far less eager to please and are more likely to give you the finger as attack on command. Also Great Pyrenees if they are improperly trained they will not bite a child but you may get bit for spanking the kid or even yelling at him/her. "No hurting my lamb mother ****er" These darlings have double the bite strength of a pitt and can cause mind numbing amounts of damage if provoked.
And you'll notice I agreed with that. Unfortunately THIS animal is a threat to the community both human and animal.Hello; Read my post again. One of the exceptions I listed was the defense against an intruder. The 4 year old child was not an intruder.
As to the notion that the dog might not be a pittbull or more to the point that somehow pitbulls are getting the blame for other dogs. Look at the picture of the dog. Looks like it could be a pittbull type to me. Even if the dog turns out to not be a pure pittbull, it still needs to be put down.
Most kids are killed by negligent or sadistic parents. Look it up at CDC.govDid you look at the picture of the child in the hospital bed?
Well that's horse **** http://mabbr.org/pit-bull-ownership/the-truth-about-pit-bulls/. Similar study looked at the fatal dog attacks in a 6 year period. Pitts accounted for the most kills at 66. Saint Berarnds accounted for 13. Due to the relative numbers Pitt bulls would have to have killed 260 people to equal the relative risk of a saint. I have a rescued saint so thats why those numbers stuck with me. Pittbulls as the media uses the term covers 6 breeds including American Staffasherie Terrier, American Pittbull Terrier, American Bull Terrier, Dogo Argetino, American Bulldog and all mixes (drawing a blank on the 6 th). The statistic you quoted comes from a statistical falsehood mostly parroted by Collen Lynn. The number of fatalities are cumulative for for all the above breeds and mixes. The total number of dogs was taken from the number of registered American Pittbull Terrier. CDC and the American Veterinary Medical Association go into why it's horse ****.Go back to me post where I placed links to dog maulings. This is documented stuff even if it goes against what you want. Pittbulls acount for over 50% of fatal mauling in one study and are less than five percent of the total dog population. How do you figgure?
Any updates on the actual story?
