Any ideas for a tiny tank? (2-5 gallons)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Lots of options - planted nano tank, most varieties of killiefish, group of lamprologus multifasciatus ( small tanganyikan shell dwelling cichlid), endlers livebearers, shrimp, pygmy corydoras (dwarf catfish), barbus jae (tiny barbs), etc.

I loo the mantis idea but I don't really want saltwater. Are there any us natives (not killis or top minnows and the like) that could be comfortably housed in it for life, other than swamp fish?

If I did an all plant tank could I skip a filter? Im going for simple, easy to care for, yet pretty when you look at it on the counter kind of tank. So if I did all plants would I even need to cycle or what should I add to the water for the plants to eat? Or maybe some cherry shrimp with it as well with a small little sponge filter, some moss balls, anacharis. Now it's coming together. Or maybe a nano planted native tank! Wonder if there are any native inverts or "creek creatures" I could house in it?

so I could get the tank
add substrate (dirt)
put in the plants
cycle it
add whatever fish or inverts I get
enjoy the tank :)

Cherry Shrimp, should be easy to take care of, dont know if you need a filter. Cherry Shrimp should breed alot, so sometimes you might even get the chance give your larger fish a little snack :D
They should like some sort of moss too, too. And they even eat algea :D

Why skip a filter? They make nano hob filters that would work good for a small 2-5 gallon tank. I had used a Azoo palm filter on a 2.5 with a betta and it worked great. On sale for $6.99 here: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produ...&CAGPSPN=pla&catargetid=1570177441&cadevice=c

This was an old 2.5g tank I had set up with my betta. It had the Azoo hob palm filter and a hydor heater. Plenty of room for a solo male betta and filtered and heated so he was happy.

looks good bro. I didn't know they made hobs that small.

so I've my narrowed options down to these:

1) Betta with hob and heater
2) cherry shrimp, plants with sponge filter
3) all native plants with possibly a small native invert (would a cray work?)
