My 90 gal tank is in need of a new fish, I want a top water fish that will be in with 2 6 inch true red terrors. I was thinking a gar or something similar in shape. Eventually they will be in my 180. Any ideas. I want to get something in there before my rt's get too much bigger

Honestly a couple of 6" Festae will use all of the 90g not allowing for many tankmates if any. I suggest a few pure Midas @3" to help the Festae bond. Once you get the 180 then u could add something else but I wouldn't do a gar

Sorry to butt-in but I have some festae fry that I will be growing out and am wondering if you recommend a midas for any particular reason, or if any other will do. Also, why will it help them bond?

I recommend Midas because of their willingness to school, toleration of eachother and tankmates, tough enough not to back down, tough enough to take a beating and not too quick to dish it back. Midevils and Red Devils are too aggressive and belligerent for this process up work properly. I have used this technique multiple times as well as one of my Festae gurus:) all with success. Cichlids need to feel challenged and to challenge. They need to dominate in order to impress mates and spawn. They also keep the attention of the pair instead of them beating eachother.

They're a great combo. But, Midas need to be smaller than Festae cause they grow much faster and once they're bigger they will dominate the festae furthermore setting you back . And once fry hatch either divide or remove Midas. Otherwise there will he issues. And don't remove them till they hatch. Good luck
