Came across him today. Think he will grow very big or will the deformity stunt his growth. I'm guessing he will have spine problems as he grows but I'm curious about his growth. Any input?

Wow that's a serious lack of backbone. All kidding aside he might have a shorter life but you never know with these little miracles of life. Best of luck with your new little guy.

I haven't bought him yet. Only extra tank I have right now is a 20 long. With this guy in it....

I might have the ability to set up another small tank, 30 gallons for the jack. That's why I asked about growth rate.

I want him though because I know what happens to "special" fish at lfs. They never sell and the end getting their asses whooped as the others grow.

I think it's likely an injury like that is survivable. Not a vital area, it's just muscle and tiny bones. The spine appears to be lower than the deformity or injury. I can't see how it's swimming to get a feel for whether or not it's spine is aligned normally but if it swims normally and appears aligned I wouldn't be too concerned.
