How big does the Capa's get :D?
Sorry for the derail.

PCF is not up-to-date on all Brachies, esp. the new ones as capa is.

Mike "SirCatfish" asked me the same question a few days back. I hope he won't mind if I post his question and my answer:

Hey, Just wanted to touch base and thank you again for your help with my cap. I did three days of medication along with h2o2 treatment. Within 3 days I would say all traces of this are gone. Fish are back to eating (cap ate 2 7" xlarge silversides) and active again. One a different note, I have read and been told differing maximum lengths for this fish also. I've seen 2' online but also seen 4-5' and heard both as well. Do you have any knowledge on this? Also since maximum weight is 23kg from site I've seen, a maximum size of 2 feet doesn't seem right. Mine was purchased at 2" last January and is 20" now.
Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike :) I am glad things are improving. I think you realize the tremendous ID woes and that this fish was split taxonomically from the fila only recently. So, little is known.

FishBase says: max 58 cm SL; max 33 kg. Fishing World Records: max 140 cm; 33 kg. It would appear that the biggest known so far is 140 cm, 33 kg.

I am of the school of thought that in the right size tank and with the right and proper care, any fish should be able to reach its full potential. What full potential for capa? We don't know. It's a bell curve of course where genes, sex, age, location, diet, etc. all matter.

If it was me, I'd plan for the 140/33 and if it does not reach that despite being taken great care, oh well. Who knows, maybe this 140/33 fish was 50 years old. Or maybe there are many capas in the wild even bigger but never been caught or mis-ID'ed as the fila.

Thanks for reporting the growth rate. This info is very important and if you have not already, IMHO it should be included in your thread for all to know.

Thanks, very helpful :D!

My capa is currently 22" at his last measuring. He eats a 7" x large silverside every night and seems to be growing strong still. He's moving into a 5' round stock tank for now until I find a larger tank. I've had mine for probably close two 18 months now.
