What's Wrong with My Glass? !

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It looks like an ex snuck in and cleaned the glass with 400 grit.

Buddy, you nailed it with the 2nd link. I guess I have glass disease. !

I would contact the tank manufacturer. even out of warranty I have to believe the manufacturer would want to know. who's going to buy a tank that's only going to last 5 years? I wouldn't be surprised if they gave you another just to get their hands on yours.

My 75g tank that I bought used has that. It became worse from the time I got it about 2 years ago. The only thing I don't like is that from the sides, it's not as nice looking even when the water is crystal clear. I guess time for an upgrade for me too!

I know that this is a CHEASY remedy, but have you considered turning the tank around and make the front into the back glass? Is the back glass clear?

Just an update. It was too depressing to bear that foggy glass with my new Tanganyika setup, so I just got a 60 gallon acrylic tank.

I haven't bought everything yet, but wanted everyone to know that was my solution.

Cheers

I have an old tank (55gal) that has a strange filmy clouded appearance that nothing will remove. It appears as though something dripped down all sides (and both sides of the glass, inside the tank and out).
I have tried everything from harsh chemicals (acids) to dissolve it, and razor blades to scrape it off. It appears to clear up momentarily, but the stains always return within a moment.
You can see it in the left of the photo.

another more recent shot, unless the fish moves to a clear area, a photo attempt is useless.

Joao, your tank does look exactly like mine, and I agree, I used fairly high concentrations of glacial acetic acid without success. I've basically given up trying to remove the stain, and now use the tank as a grow out in a remote corner of the fishroom.

I also gave up.
But this is a bigger tank (2m - ~6ft) so it´s not that easy to hide in the corner.
Anyway, the auranti SH love it the way it is so...I have to live with it
