Is it time to say goodbye?

Each dog and their aging is unique. I recommend talking about yours with her vet.
Sometimes old dogs get more anxious about things than before & act restless.
However, they can have pain AND other types of decline at the same time.
Pain & discomfort needs to be determined through physical exam by vet, and I wouldn't trust opinions based on what you can tell us here.

I recently had my 15 1/2 yr old dog euthanized. It was really hard getting to that point with this dog.. the worst ever.
The Vet worked closely with me about everything near the end.

I guess I just gotta watch it. Hadn't found a vet for her down here yet. Last I heard, she needs all her shots before she can be looked at again anyway... :(

I just had to have my 4 y/o teacup yorkie put down. She had developed neurological issues and her health was declining rapidly. While my decision was more clear cut than yours it wasn't any easier. I was you and your dog the best of luck!

I know the feeling of losing a dog. Been there 3 times. Well 4, but the first one I was very young and didn't understand. I always looked at it as you need to think of whats best for the animal and not yourself. I don't believe in prolonging the suffering of an animal. Regardless of species. They are your babies and letting go is one of the hardest things you can do. Especially when you have had her for so long. If it was me and I knew the animal was suffering, as painful as it would be for me, I would put it down. Ultimately the call is yours. I wish you the best of luck.

As stated discuss things with your vet. I have a 22(possibly more as he is a rescue) y/o mutt that has major cataract problems as well as pain issues. He has survived 3 owners (a family friend who died in a car accident, my grandfather, and my mother) His pain is manegable with baby aspirin (prescribed by the vet) and my cats help him get around the house. The original plan was to have him put to sleep when my mom passed but it has been six months and he seems to be doing better with his pain and even sometimes enjoys a good play with the cats, one of my girlfriends dogs or even sometimes a good cuddle with her bunnies. If she is suffering it might be time if it is manegable it might not. Only you and your vet can make that decision.

Tough tough.. We all have a time... And even if you have the money is it really worth putting her under??
Since your problem seems only when you are away other than the eyes, and you seem more concern about the stress she is under..
What about mood meds?? Do they make that for a vet?? I think its better than putting her down as long as she, eat, drinks, and walks..

Putting her down seems like a sensible idea if she is suffering and she maybe... Good luck

I definetly feel you on this issue. I had to make the decision to have thd family dog put to sleep when she was 17 years old. She had developed cancer that had spread through her whole body and began having seizure. Eventually the seizure were not controllable by medication and i could tell lack of oxygen was causing brain damage. Putting her to sleep was very peacefull and I held her till the end.

With your dog id say take her to the vet if you can and see what they say. My vet did not even charge for my dogs last vet visit becuase he new it was the end. For her itchy skin have you tried the shampoo called maleseb? It is very good for itchiness!
