He ain't selling, trust me. Besides, his wife owns half. She is not mentioned in this ban. I think people who assume/hope that Donald Sterling will no longer be the owner of the Clippers in the short foreseeable future are going to be sadly disappointed.

Steinbrenner was handed a lifetime ban from baseball, who remembers how that one turned out?

Yes, there are rules to follow in the NBA, just like players, coaches and owners cannot accuse refs of bad calls (risk fines). The NBA has an image to protect. I don't agree with the lifetime ban and stripping of ownership, but i do agree with the fine. He should be fined and banned for a couple years. I don't think he's completely racist cuz look at his girl.

To follow up what was said above. It was explained to me a long time ago that you have freedom of speech but not freedom of repercussion. You have the right to say things but you arent protected from the actions that come as a result of you saying them. Falls in line with yelling fire in a movie theater, bomb at the airport, hate speech on facebook that your employers see etc etc.

No law was broken but the association can kick. By all rights hes entitled to have those opinions and voice them. Just sucks it was a private convo

I'd agree if it was like a public announcement or something like that, but how does it fall in line with actions made at a public theatre or airport if it was in his own home and affected no one. The only actions who affected anyone was his girl. I hear people says racists stuff all the time even and no one goes "you get a fine, you get a fine, EVERYBODY GETS A FINE". It's like if you work docked your salary and billed you cause you girl talked to them and caught you slipping. Don't agree with what he said but seems a different freedom of speech issue then yelling fire in a theatre.

You cant unhear what was said. Ive not once said his private convo should be the smoking gun but if you go bash your boss on facebook or tell your wife company secrets and EVERYONE who it effects finds out, do you really expect zero repercussion?

Same here. Owner in a sport that takes pride in its diversity put foot in mouth and lost job.

Is it like in the agreement that they can fine him?

Yea, like being in a homeowners association. They have rules you must follow despite being a homeowner of individual property no? No one is claiming a law was broken. Just rules he signed up for
