So.... How much do they eat? The fish a lil smaller in the second picture. But you can tell the difference just looking at the branch alone!

9 months. The time it takes for a baby to pop out!

Now. This is a branch that's rarely chewed upon. Other branches wore even faster!

But you got like a million pleco's in there lol. It is amazing how much they could eat. I had this piece that I found on a hiking trip I did and it looked awesome. Well now it turned into a cheap skinny twig. They really went to town on it. Most of my wood are thick branch now so they will last. Once I get the water flow figured out I wanna have my tank full of nothing but wood and panaque's.

What kind of wood is that in the photo? I use Manzanita

It's Manzanita. They prefer manzanita over other common driftwoods.

Really? I though manzanita was posionous for plecos...guess not.

@Mrtoofay--do you/have you ever used cholla cactus? I see it advertised but have never bought.

Gees whats up with the parrot behind that awesome pleco!! Lol

If Mazanita is poisonous, our vendor manzman will be outta business....... Manzanita wood has a red skin/bark that's sandblasted or jetwashed off before use, don't know if the red skin is what you are thinking about.

Never used cholla cactus. The small holes maybe good for smaller plecos or shrimp, but they are too small, so never got to use them.

Have two 50"+ pieces on standby when this one is too skinny... which would be pretty soon.

Yeah, i think it is the bark that is poisonous. I have a really nice piece from manzman, but it is in a non pleco tank. That is interesting about loss, I dont notice as much with my pieces of malaysian dw since they are so big. Guess I will compare an old pic like you!

All my pieces I got now are from Manzman and they love it. I do got various colors though red, brown and even a piece that is light colored then oak. Most of the pleco's I have ever had love the stuff.

I use to have pieces of Cholla back when I had my L144's. None of them munched on it and the babies only hid inside them. The L144's would munch on the Manzanita but not the Cholla. Not sure if they just don't like it or just liked the manz more.

What parrot!?!?! You can't prove anything without a whole fish shot! Innocent until proven guilty!

LoL!!!

if I said it once, I've said it thousand times!! It's wife's fish!! Cut me a break already!!! LoL

well. Had 12. Now down to 6. Buhahahaha. You'd think they would be hardier than fragile plecos. But they actually are much more sensitive to water quality n parasites than all my plecos.

Dunno if my hatred towards them have anything to do with them not getting as much care as the plecos.... Good thing wifey doesn't read the forums.

Really? i have manz in my tank with cholla cactus and malaysian. My L27 is almost religiously scraping on the malaysian and hits up the cholla every now and then. I never see him on the manz.

ps: u can get cholla wood in bulk, and it's not that small tbh(when u factor in cost). Diameter sure but I've got quite a few longer pieces. You can throw them in log dog bones for treats.
