Payara Armatus advice on a clean up crew!

I added a couple Raphael Catfish to my Armatus tank and a couple with my Aba Aba.

I wanted to ask the MFK legends what they think about an Armatus with these catfish and what are the chances the Armatus would grab one and try to swallow it?

I try to look at worse scenarios and if he catches one and try to swallow those catfish fins would rip him apart. Are Armatus smart enough to know that they should not try and swallow these armored catfish?

I need a clean up crew for the Tilapia fillets stuffed with Hikari. Sometimes there is an explosion when he hits one and Hikari goes flying all over his tank. I got a few convicts that live in a cave that do a nice clean up job. But I feel the Raphael catfish would be the best!
 
They may ignore them but odds are they will get eaten if there is a size difference. How about a Niger cat? Gentle armored giant that grows fast and is easy to care for.

Well mostly I am nervous if he catches one of the Raphaels and tries to swallow it he will get stabbed in his throat and jaw.
 
Yeah if he catches one of the Raphael he's going to be in for a surprise but my guess is he rarely even sees them due to their propensity to hide away during the day.Another thing is my armatus almost never eats anything off of the bottom of the tank,it's always a mid level strike so if they do happen to be out and about during the day your armatus might ignore them.
 
I think you're safe during the day like krich said cuz when I had 1, it literally hid all day long and only came out at night. If 1 does come out during the day and your armatus is anything like mine were, I'd be worried. Mine would pick up fillets from the floor but I dunno how yours is.

Why not go Irwinni and eliminate the size issue?

I use them in all my toothy tanks. Love em.

Brooooo those are the coolest catfish I will get one asap nice one buddy thanks so much!

Thanks guys very much anyway, I am taking them out now. I just saw one of the Raphaels come to the top to eat some earthworms and made me think he could end up being in the wrong place at the wrong time one day since he just ignored my Armatus the whole time he was eating. Those Raphaels have some sharp fins.
 
I use assassin snails in all my freshwater tanks - they breed like crazy when there's an abundance of food. They might not be enuff for large particles but that's what they make siphons for.
