Terrible news guys... one of my rtc/tsn hybrids passed away today. He was 7 years old and 35 inches long. No visible marks on the body and nothing strange in his belly (other than natural bloating after death).

Possible Causes of Death:

1.) Internal injury from getting scared and bashing against the bridge or walls.

2.) Arapaima accidently knocked into him when they got scared.

3.) Hybrid genes are unstable and unpredictable.. they are known to pass away well before 'their time' so may have died from natural causes. This may be the most likely since no marks were found on his body...

Sorry to hear. Couple things I notice that don't look right. 1. Stomach is really bloated and 2. The tail section from back of stomach to caudal fin is really skinny for that size of fish.

I felt the tummy.. nothing inside.. that bloatedness is natural gas released in the decomposition process after death... so i dont think that is right..

Would you say that a majority have this issue?

I would say that a lot of them do... tbh most people dont keep their pets alive long enough to even know for certain... a lot of them die from being kept in small enclosures or other reasons... so it is impossible to tell.... but if u dont wana take the risk... or if u dont wana support human genetic breeding then maybe stick to the pure breeds... it may be safer!
