Hi fellow hobbyists

I am thinking about keeping discus, however i am still thinking about the appropriate tank size for a shoal of +/- 10 discus. i have searched but could not find any information about the recommended dimension of a tank for discus. from the information i have gathered, people are talking about 8-10 gallons(i assume it is uk gallons = 5.54 liters) for an adult discus. But there is again no mention of the dimension of the tank. i am planning to build a tank of 120(L)*50(W)*70(H)cm which is 420 liters and roughly 92 uk gallons. Capacity of the tank is not a problem. i could also go for 120*60*60 or 100*70*70 which all give you the same 420 liters.

Any inputs are highly appreciated.

Thanks!

Warmer water holds less oxygen.
So I would go for dimensions that give you the biggest surface area possible.

this is not a problem at all. i can always put an airstone to oxygenate the aquarium. my question is what is the recommended aquarium size for keeping discus. so far i have not seen much info except that adult discus need 10g of water. i could well make an aquarium 6'x3'x1' if i wanted maximum surface area.

What about the background? is there a specific background color where the discus' color is more vibrant? blue, black or white?

Actually discus like swimming up and down so taller tank is actually better and as to asking size for 10 adult discus u can keep in a bare 75 gallon 48 x 18 x 21 if u want but if ur doing a show tank get the biggest tank ur wallet will allow u Cuz for show tank u will have drift wood in it and will.eventually add maybe live plants and other fish into tank
