Im sure we can find conflicting reports on every stingray out there. Who is right and wrong? Just because some scientific description is different then what we know now dosnt mean we are gonna change the name hobbyists call them

No, you will not find conflicting papers (from the scientific community) on the Potamotrygon genus. :) The biologists know what they are doing. ;)

Why would you continue to called a species an incorrect name, well knowing that it is wrong?

That makes no sense to me.
