Just picked up three of these guys up today in the lps because I've not seen them in my store. They are about 3-4" and seem to be in good health. I usually don't get some fish without looking up info first, but wanted to give them a try in my 350 gallon community. Also picked up two electric blue acara that I've not seen in my lps but have online. Any info from those that have had either, let me know. My current stock list is:

15 x Tiger Barbs
15 x Albino Tiger Barbs
1 x Chocolate Cichlid
5 x Nics
6 x Silver Dollars
5 x Bronze Cory's
1 x L330 Watermelon Pleco

Will do some in tank shots once they settle into tank.

I like mad barbs quite a bit. They act basically like overgrown tinfoils. They also grow extremely fast.

They can get up to 20 inches(at least 16 in a tank). I had many of them. The last 4 got up to 14 inches. They are very strong splashers. They broke the center brace in my 190gallon.

They need lots of swimming space, deep tanks as well. I had some in a 80 gallon breeder. When they got to about 6 inches they started rotting. I moved them to another tank(the 190 with the other 4) and they made a huge recovery but still died off a year or two later.

So the 8'x3'x2' 350 acrylic tank should be ok I take it

Its a matter of opinion. There are videos of some online much larger than 20". Mine shot up to 14"-15" in a about 6 months and I gave them away. Ive been looking for more lately as fish to keep my dorado busy.

They are very active

Your'e tank should be fine, I had mine 2 of them in a 125 with a black shark and 3 tinfoils which they schooled with, never had promblems they were active grew to about 14 inches and pretty much just cruised the tank. I sold them when I changed my tank for some haps. Have seen some around 18 inches or so.

Gets up to 40" long, is an active swimmer and lives in shoals. For comps, a shoal of these in a 8'x3', is comparable to a shoal of tinfoils in a 20L. At 29" (which I believe are the ones in the pics below), they weigh in around 17+ lbs, so 3 @ 29" would require around 1/2 lbs of pellets (or equivalent) per day to cover 1% of body weight. A single full grown one would weigh around 40-45 lbs and obviously consume far more.

Personally speaking, I like the tinfoil look a bit more and find it more colorful. Full grown in a tank, a shoal of these must indeed be an awesome sight.
