Gar breeding project

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sometime in the future you should consider selling some baby TRUE spotted gars. I know quite a lot of people may want to get their hands on them! ;) Congrats and good luck with raising those little guys!

Now that's a good idea lol I'm just not sure if that would be legal

Our LFS used to sell native fish, but they said they had to purchase like a $50 permit to do so, and I believe the breeder they used needed a permit as well. I don't think you need a permit if you were to just privately sell them here on MFK, though, and I think a lot of members here would be interested!

Does anybody know what my chances of finding any piebald, platinum, or golden gars would be?

About the same as winning the lottery or getting struck by lightning.. Could really happen but the odds are not in your favor.

Gotcha. Was just wondering since they spawn thousands and there aren't a lot of fish that would eat them in the pond.

They seem to be much more comfortable in the tank with these plants. I've got 18 in all now.uploadfromtaptalk1405392061493.jpg

Go to Southeast Asia, platinums are commonly seen and sometimes bred. Goldens are more rare, not sure what a piebald is.
