If budget is not an issue go with two ac110s fir $160. If money is tight I recommend going 2 aqueon 75s for $60. I own multiple ac110s and aqueon 75s.

What is always best is a sump. When a sump isn't an option go with multiple HOBs. But HOB + a canister works very well.

Yeah, unfortunetly for me sump is not an option. I have always thought that Canister + HOB was the best set up (besides sump). HOB for mechanical and Big Canister for Bio.

Will an aqueon 75 fit on a 75 Gallon with the 1 1/4 inch lip? I've read that the Penguin 350 or the Aquaclear 70 will not fit my tank because of the lip.

That's a good question. I can only confirm it fits on my 60, 55, and 40b. Maybe has specs online?

Your Eheim offers good bio. AC 110 would give you the mechanical you need. Emp 400 more efficient as a bio filter. The Aqueon are limited on both counts. You can put a couple cuts with a hacksaw blade in the tank lip, bend up and down with pliers and it snaps right off. Then anything fits.

Emperor 400

Thanks for the suggestion. I own an Emperor 400 and it's a little loud. Not that loud but loud enough that I wanna give another HOB a shot.

I ordered the Aqueon 75 for a few reasons. It had alot of great reviews. It was only $30 and the main reason is because there were tons of reviews on Amazon where people were using it on 75+ gallon tanks.

AC 110 all the way! I got 2 on my 75g, they keep my tank crystal clear! AC 110 is probably the best HOB filter out there. Stay away from that Emperor 400! It's a very loud junk in my opinion! GL
