armatus vs african tiger fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ive tried to raise Armatus 3 years in a row, failed every time. However the forth time is doing better, at least over a year old this time.

Have only lost a few Tigers (to an Aimara, and to a ray, both thought they could eat them) other then that have had great luck with them. (10 in house)

Maybe the water has something to do with it? Liquid rock water here. PH 8.5+

I had both together for about 3 month my armatus won the all there fights and African tiger ended up dying from all the fights and the poor guy had a hole in the eye from the armatus fangs. Not a good combo to have together, it was an expensive lesson.

This is Monster Fish KEEPERS, Not Monster Fish KILLERS!

That you are!

Actually... Armatus are more hardy but they do NOT heal faster than ATF's. If you want to grow your ATF's beyond 14", you will need to 'teach' your tigerfish where the parameters of your tank are. Try pointing your powerheads right next to the front of your tank, this will create a flow that will allow your tigerfish to learn when to stop and not run into the front glass/plexi panel.

my tiger will just do circle in the middle of the tank and it's very ALERT to its surrounding! Also, it keep away from the armatus' mouth

GATF & Armatus can be a good combo, as long as there enough feeders to go around.

:D

If you start the GATF and army at the same time and same size, the GATF will be a feeder for the dramatically faster growing army in just a couple of months.

I'd love to try an Army, but seeing how my Scomb and my brevis treat one another, I can't imagine an ATF surviving an armatus. Something has flipped and these two are constantly taking swipes at one another. I'm hoping it calms down when I move them into then 180 once my 240 is up and running.

If I was you though, I'd go with the armatus. A tiger fish seems to be a frustrating, and often heart breaking, pet to keep. I love my Baki, but I'm not sure I see myself getting another ATF in the future.

maybe the ones we have now are a different strain????

Maybe it IS diet...... ;)

First one I had grew the largest - fed feeders the longest.

2nd and 3rd batch broke very young, fed lots of shrimp and smelt.

Current batch raised on carny sticks then on to tilapia with carny sticks and massivore in it. Largest of the 3 is probably bigger then my first now.
