Stand or not to stand

dualy noted, and very valued points.

in terms of getting knocked this is something i have thought about and is a concern will have a think on that.

in terms of kids well this room is where we dont take guests lol and if they are in there they are not unattended with much more valuable things in this room we keep people out. if my kids go in there and climb on the tank then they deserve to fall in hahaha, seriously that is a good point but all my kids are old enough to know better with my youngest now 7 and there is no worries about any family growth lol. im hoping that the Dovii will scare small children away from the tank lololol.

on a similar note i do have a concern about my other pets finding there way in. my bulldog would make short work of the tank if she wanted in it but she is also not aloud in this room and my short hair jack Russel is a big concern cause he love water, again he isnt aloud in but that dosnt mean he wont. I do plan on a top of some description.

just more thinking and planing. makes it more fun
 
Will run into problems siphoning large volumes without the height differential to assist.
 
I have 2 jack Russells and have found both of them standing on top of aquariums 5 foot high, so you can pretty much guarantee your fella will be all over your doviis lol. Please go with the stand lol.

+1, unless you plan on dropping a pump into the tank to pump out water. And the thing about cannisters are true too, they need to be under the tank to work properly. I tried that before and my cannister would not intake water well and was always purging air that would not come out of the cannister. Good luck with the algae control too if you plan on leaving the tank there.

I was planing on using a pump to do water changes as I have a spare pump from my koi pond.

I leave in wales we dont get sun so Algae isn't a problem hahaha on a serious note I have painted the rear of the tank black, with a black hood it should keep as much as I can. The UV in the canister should keep it under control if that all fails, I was a UV canister on my old koi pond in my green house and it was crystal all year round.

The point with the filters is valued and I think I'll look at a stand

In my opinion i think it looks quite nice other then some issue my tank is only a foot and a quarter off the floor i dont have any problems yet

I have a 90 gallon on the floor in my bedroom. My canister filter works fine and I have no problem at all getting my siphon to work.
 
Well I had the tank running on a small filter with just a pair of convicts in for about two months ( half full, daily WC) and they been doing OK, in fact there is now 8 convicts in there now. WC are OK I either use a pump or just dip buckets in either way it takes no longer that any of the other tanks. I have just set up two large internals and waiting for my canister to turn up, just for that warm fluffy feeling I got to much rather than not enough so I grabbed some quick pics. I'll leave it cycling now for a month then I'll be adding the dovii in and removing the convicts back to there other tank. Decor I just went with some large bits I had around and sub straight I used slate roofing tiles I picked up, its like having a bare bottom but still give young fry some where to hide in the gaps.
