Hello, I've had a red eared slider for just about 15 years in a 40 breeder. He's never been fed fish and is very peaceful. That said I've got a rambunctious 5" mud cat that I'm looking for a temporary place for. Do you think the slider would eat him? Thanks.

It really depends on the slider. In the past when I've had them, some would chase anything in the tank while others ignored everything. But, if the RES has been by itself in a 40 breeder for 15 years and you have given it live food my guess is it would at least try to go after the mud cat --> which would likely end up with at minimum an injured fish.

In other words, if you are attached to the mud cat I wouldn't try it.

What are you defining as a "mudcat"? That could mean anything from a yellow bullhead to a flathead.

Any pictures of the bullhead? I'd be happy to confirm the ID. If he was wild caught that would make since Erie has mainly Brown Bullheads, and they have the genes to get big as well! I personally wouldn't put the two together but feel free to try.
