I have the heater set to 73. I also had my hand on the pump and it was hot as hell. One of the propellers was spinning in the opposite direction and humming. I think its a 3200 GPH wavemaker.
Went home for lunch and all is good now.
Heaters commonly malfunction and either doesn't go on anymore or they stay on until they burn out completely...in the process cooking your tank....regardless of what it is set on. That's why many people use heat controllers in conjunction with their heaters.
I believe you got your issue resolved with the pump as the culprit. I was just making a point about heater failures.
I got a thermometer during lunch, came home after work and it was 96 degrees. Now its 91. I lost one of the big Geo's too

Water temps are now 87.2 so I should be good now, but want to stay around 77-80. Guess this means I get to go fish shopping to replace the 3 I lost
