I have the heater set to 73. I also had my hand on the pump and it was hot as hell. One of the propellers was spinning in the opposite direction and humming. I think its a 3200 GPH wavemaker.

Went home for lunch and all is good now.

Heaters commonly malfunction and either doesn't go on anymore or they stay on until they burn out completely...in the process cooking your tank....regardless of what it is set on. That's why many people use heat controllers in conjunction with their heaters.

I believe you got your issue resolved with the pump as the culprit. I was just making a point about heater failures.
 
Open the cover and run a fan across the water's surface
