I've heard (first hand, e.g., from Snookn21) of people's intentions to manually breed them and of growing them up and buying up adults. I've never heard whether this was ever successful or not. The female perishes for sure, and the male I think too in the process of manual extraction of roe and milt. Gruesome.
 
Seems odd to me. Why wouldn't they use hormones and milk them?

I think they do just that and the "milking" kills the female for sure.
