Hi everyone been many years since I've been around. Was given a 40 gallon tall tank and getting back I to the hobby. Me and my wife would like to make a nice bio type out of it. Sand fake plants rocks and drift wood. Want to do some nice lighting on it also. But what would yall recommend for stock? I was considering firemouths, sajica, keyhole, anything else I can look into?

Keyhole cichlids look really attractive, I've never been able to try them cause my tanks are aggressive, but I think they'd be perfect for what you're suggesting.

Elliott are a bit agressive only get 5 inches. For a light a blue light or moon light would look good. Some driftwood going through the middle with plants attached to it. Then some platies or sword tail about six would look really nice

I deffinatly would like to do a pair of firemouths and some sword tales. Should I start out with a group and see if they pair?

Yeah start of with 6 and if you get a few pairs pic the best looking pair. But make sure with your LFS that you can take the rest back to the LFS.
