Now that large fish have a new home my 36x15 Is home to a trio of geos 2 Suriname and 1 jurupari. And 2 eels (fire and zigzag) personally I like geos so you could do that.

Why not go for a tougher 6" fish that will be happy, moving, and interacting rather than a big fish that will be sulking do to be cramped. I would do a large male Convict or pair of Firemouths don't let what you see in the store fool you, they get big and colorful. A Blue or Electric Blue Accra would be nice. Don't forget with length come width and height many people, my self included, often forget how big a 6 inch fish actually is a 6" fish could be 4" tall.

So quick synopsis because I am so long winded

one of the following
1 or 2 cons
1 or 2 Firemouths
1 Blue Accara
1 Electric Blue Accara
1 or 2 Sajica
1 or 2 Rainbow Cichlids

+1 to all of these
Salvini are down right nasty one would do well and sounds like the temperament you are looking for. Just dont ever plan on putting anything in with it.

Thank you for such a helpful input :)

Friends what do you think about a pair of Goldfish ? or an african cichlid community to make it a colourful community tank ? Since the options are quite limited because of tank size

There have been a number of reasonable suggestions above.
In my opinion a properly raised goldfish gets much to big for a 42 gal, healthy full grown goldfish will easily reach 1 ft.

I keep a pair of the above suggested sajica in a 45

and many of the other suggested Cryptoheros, such as multispinossa would also fit the bill, because they remain small enough.

Another thought, if you don't want to use a heater, would be some of the small Gymnogeophagus such as Gymno quilero

or Gymno sp Paso Pache

if you chose Gymnos, 1 male and 3 or 4 females would be a good way to go, they like to live in a harem situation.

A blackwater setup with cardinal tetras would be quite attractive IMO.

If you were doing goldfish, I'd do 3-4 fancy goldfish in a 42 gallon personally.
