My New Baby: Wden

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am so psyched! Yesterday I rescued a beautiful hybrid gar. He has become Wōden's new tank mate. His name is Horus. This is because a barracuda attacked him and he lost his right eye... But he one the fight. Like I said, he was a rescue. But now, Horus and Wōden are doing spectacular together. No fighting or territorial issues. I didn't think there'd be, because I did my research, but you never can know until you put them together. And, oh my! Horus has an appetite! He scarfed down 16 feeder guppies last night. Thank goodness I am breeding them! When I get some good pictures of Horus, I'll post them.

He is so happy now...

What do you mean hybrid gar? Id it has any alligator or florida spotted gar in it then you may quickly have problem with over grown fish :P

:help2: So I have a new question. I rescued a Fire Mouth Cichlid. I have her in my feeder tank right now because I don't know if she is a safe tank-mate for my Ornate Bichir and Gar. Can someone please give me some advice about this? If she's not a good tank-mate, I'm going to tank her down to my fish store and give her away, or something. Wōden and Horus are my main priorities.

Oh, and as a side note, Horus is a Florida Spotted Gar. I was given incorrect information about his type when I rescued him. He's not a hybrid.

Fire mouth may feed more aggressively than your birchir and make it hard to feed him. Also the gar will most likely out grow your tank within the year.

Thank you very much for your information concerning the Fire Mouth. I certainly don't want to bite off more than I can chew. I think I'll take her to the pet store, as well. Like I said, Wōden and Horus are my main concerns.

And, I'm not to worried about my babies outgrowing their tank. I'm currently building a 135 gallon tank for them. It should be ready within two months, at the latest.

Depending on the 135 dimentions even that will be tight for the gar after a few years

It's going to be 4' x 4' x 4'. That is 64 cubic feet. But it will only be filled up to three feet. That's 48 cubic feet of water, which calculates out to... 358.56 gallons of water. Yeah, my original calculations were incorrect. Massive plans going on here! Everything is falling into perfect place here. So, like I said, the new tank will be up and running withing the next couple of months. Hopefully, that should be more than enough room for them.
