Neither of my FX5 make noise unless they get air trapped in them or there's something in the impeller. I love them. I run them in conjunction with AquaClear 110s on my 150 and a 30 gallon wet-dry on my 210. The AC are actually noisier than the FX5.

I have 4 fx5. They r all running great. However, one wet/try system can substitute for 3. So better spend money on 1...then 3.

Hmm...maybe, my plecos and geos spray sand everywhere.

I use the fluval 206, not the fx5 or fx6. Never used those before, I prefer eheim. Also eheims have superior media capacity. Load that up with eheim substrat pro and you got yourself a biological powerhouse. Although the fluvals are great for catching debris, I use all mechanical media in the fluval and all bio in the eheims.
