275g tank filtration!

Depending on your stock. I have heavy stock. 2 fx5 r not enough. I have add a sump and an uv.

Filtration is only as good as its maintenance.
You can have 10 filters, and if the gunk is not cleaned out, it won't matter because they become nitrate precursor factories.
But if you have 1 filter, or a few filter socks, and adequate biomedia for stocking levels, and the gunk is removed from the water column often, with low nitrate results, you are golden.
 
agreed. I'd add at least 30 or 40 gallons of a high surface area biomedia.

As soon as I move this tank to the basement. I'll be adding a sump system so all my aquarium shares water. It would benefit my planted aquariums from water coming from the messy big fish. Only problem my planted tanks are not drilled. Are those diy pvc overflows safe?

I run 2 FX5's on a 265g, not overstocked, but full enough. As previously stated, proper maintenance, ie water changes, substrate vac and filter cleaning keeps the tank in very good standing.
