I decided to go to petsmart during lunch,They had blood parrots there for $9. There is one I am considering because it mouth is more normal and not as deformed head. All of the BP's are the same color, they have the grey body with red throat like a grey flower horn it also had red spotted fins like a red texas. I know all BP start out grey or black and fade to orange but are these something different? Anyone see BP bred to be the grey and red coloring.

Also the one not as deformed as a normal BP was the most aggressive in the tank.

This was the change in colour from mine in a matter of months.

I'd probably except the same in yours. Good find on the normal mouth, I try to go for as normal a mouth as possible; and I've also noticed a link with aggression based on this, probably due to more red devil genes or something.

The ones I saw didn't have the black like yours it was more grey stripped. Did yours start out grey stripped?

I don't have a pic from the earliest I got him, but I vaguely remember some striping; the tank I got mine in said it had trimac genes, which is why I thought mine had what looked like a FH line early on.

Do you have a pic of yours?

.

that's how they are now, When after you see those blacks then orange break through them. That's the color morph stage

Cool thanks everyone. No pics yet I haven't picked him up because I am trying to decided between this blood parrot or my original plan of a red dot severum.

They all have "flowerlines" and bars when young. Just like their pure parent species...
