My female ZZ is ready to go! She's 4.5 inches and the male 1st generation mid grade Red Texas is 5 inches.
I hope he's mature enough, isn't eating at the moment due to the heat. The temp is about 81-82 degrees. Once they spawn I'll lower it a little. They get along very well in this 47 gallon tank.

Good luck! It's a little odd that he isn't eating due to "heat". My RT are kept in 80 degree water and they eat like savages.

Thats a nice ZZ female...good color on the Texas...give them a trial run and let them spawn, just don't quit on them if it doesnt go through the first time. Where'd you pick that RT up at??

Nice pair. I like that red tex a lot. I always treat my Fh with prazipro if they aren't eating unless they are new and just getting used to food. I take that back I treat the new guys also. Not a good sign in my opinion. Good luck with spawn though.

Yeah the female is fine.
He's behaving normally, i just can't call it. I didn't pay much attention to his eating in the community tank.
it just appeared as if he ate less than she does.
I just keep seeing food pass his face and he doesn't go up and get it.

Sunday I got tired of her sitting at her nest area and him being on the other side of the tank. So I divided them to her side and he just acted like he wanted to break free and get away from her.
I just ca me to the conclusion he's not mature enough.
Much like his 2 brothers. I'll post pics of them tomorrow.

Hope the male is fertile for you...
I wouldn't call him mid grade. He's cool for a first generation cross but certainly low grade if you are calling it an rt.
