New RED DEVIL (midevil) with big ol' head

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
In the grand scheme of things regarding citrinellus/labiatus, that doesn't mean squat.

See the following sticky for more info: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/f...f-citrinellus-A-potential-case-of-F1-Midevils

From that link .......

In the first paper linked to below they mention A. citrinellus types with elongated bodies, and some with thick lips. This seems to be a reoccurring pattern among the various studies performed over the past few years. While A. labiatus has morphed (longer head, compressed body, and fleshy lips) due to it's specialized feeding technique of feeding on invertebrates and crustaceans found within the rock crannies, apparently some of the A. citrinellus types share some of these same physical characteristics.

Read that entire thread, and the links within, and you'll understand why one cannot simply look at a photo of a midas/lab/midevil, and do anymore than take a wild guesstimate as to its genetic background.

From the photos posted on page one by the op this fish looks like more of a citrinellus profile than a labiatus profile. To be very clear I'm not suggestioning it is citrinellus I'm am only saying IME it looks more like a cit than a lab. It is a very nice looking young fish and should grow into a very nice looking adult fish regardless of what it may or may not be.

IMO hybrid #1 has more of a classic midas profile, hybrid #2 (fader flowerhorn) has more of an RD profile.

This is precisely why I previously stated one cannot simply look at a photo of a midas/lab/midevil, and do anymore than take a wild guesstimate as to its genetic background.

So we agree on this.
