Just picked up a two foot Motoro stingray was really excited when I saw her the LFS store told me it was two years old and that the Person who had it before me had it in a 125 by itself and it was big and fat nice markings.I got it home no problem in a 40 gallon tub.The next day I noticed two heater burns on the bottom of its belly,I have always kept the heater on the bottom of the tank and never had a problem with the fish getting burned, since then mounted it to wall of tank. The burns seem to be healing.some of the edges fell of but the rest of the out side rim seems to be in tact.I also found out that the LFS had a problem the day before I took it home. The landlord had painted the hallway out side his space with mold resistant sprayer and it got into his space and he lost a lot of fish,he showed me a film that was on the top of the tanks in the back of store.I noticed when I brought the fish to my tank that a layer of slime was coming of for a day or two my water quality is good but I noticed that the stingray had white bumps on it back that are now gone.He is still not eating I am a little concerned. Also in my 400 gallon tank I have a good amount of fish and I think that she is not that comfortable with all the fish action.when do you think I should start to get concerned? and do you think I should try feeding it a night when there is less action going on

Wow there is a lot going on that is wrong In this thread...

First do you have any pics? Of tank, tank mates, substrate ect?

Second I would never want to have a two year old female motoro in a 125 holy cow that's way small.

Third what are you trying to feed it?

Fourth what are your water parameters?

Fifth did you do any prelim research before buying the ray?

Sixth what are you doing in the way of wc?

Seventh how is the rays behavior aside from not eating?

Eighth what did you do to treat it's injuries?

Ninth what is the footprint of your tank?

Tenth what was the store feeding her/trying to feed her and was she eating it?

You need to get your heater covered immediately or she will continue to burn herself. Feeding at night will help but there are a lot more issues that need addressed. Also leave the lights off so she doesn't get so stressed. Again we need a lot more pics of this fish and tank as well as a list of tank mates and sizes. Also completely test everything about your water and post your results as well.

Mods if this thread can be moved to stingrays that will allow better traffic of ray keepers. Thank you!

He states he is housing it in a 400 gallon, not a 125 (unless you were just mentioning the previous owners setup). Main thing is to make sure you are doing frequent water changes and that you keep your water pristine, that is the best thing to do in the way of healing the rays burn. Also try to get some form of a cover for the heater, rays like to surf the wall and there is potential for further burning, I actually haven't had one on side I accidentally broke my cover 2 years ago and havent had a burn in that time.

As far as feeding goes, try a wide variety of foods (pellets, shrimp, tilapia, worms) and talk to the LFS owner to see what he was feeding it. If nothing else get some live nightcrawlers to just see if it will go for it.

Rays are usually pretty good with tank mates but just out of curiosity what else is housed in the 400 with it?

And please post pics if you can, might help to determine issues.

Yes I was stating the previous owners setup. I agree start by trying to feed a variety of foods but if nothing else she should take live night crawlers. Again pictures will help.

You can just cut PVC, drill holes in it for water flow, and put your heaters inside of that. Also make sure you sand down any sharp edges on the PVC to avoid cuts and scratches.

I have a drip system and a large bead filter in the garage. The heater is a 1000 watt titanium heater with controller.I keep the temperature at 78 to 80 my PH is between 7.4 and 7.8 i like to keep it higher so that if my fish get any injuries they heal fast not like problems I had in the past when my water was very acid.this is not the first stingray I have had,but I have found out that they are a lot more difficult to keep than just fish,I change about 200 gallons a day and add Sachem safe every night enough to treat hole tank its been working great for me my fish never have done so well.as for the fish that I have in with it are two flag tails one 20inches the other 12 inches, two red tail Guramie one 24 inches the other 12 inches, three wide bar silver dollars about 9 inches and a narrow bar about 7inches,one black belt about 7 inches, two foot arow,1 purple head synosperlm,6 seven inch Hapla barbs. The ray seems to be swimming around a little more and two days ago added 25 goldfish but was not interested at all.I will get some worms today, but I do not know if she will have a chance to get to them before the other fish eat them all.I can not post pictures because I do not know how to do it,I am not that computer savey I need my friend to show me how to post them.I know how to text and Email them but not threw the computer, besides I went into detail what was wrong with ray.It is definitely healing I am just adding salt and keeping water quality high.I use a PVC cover for the heater in my turtle tank, had two because he bit threw two cords and I am on my third 1000 watt heater. I will make up one for the other tank.

The LFS store told me that it was eating everything that was mentioned above so far tried dried krill,Tiliapia, and goldfish.never feed live but was told she was eating 100 a week and was willing to give it a try just to get her started eating. My fish weren't that interested in the 25 I put in there when I went to sleep there was still about 10 to 12 left and they were gone in the morning.don't know who ate them.I want to thank any constructive feed back i get the rest of the people who do not have any thing beneficial to say please keep it to your self, thanks a lot Noel
