geophagusbrasiliensis x convict

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Arg, this is getting annoying. I have two convict cichlids, both females. In less than a weeks time, the male Geophagus Brasiliensis has dug a nest, mated with one of them, and has now dug another nest about 6" away and is preparing it with the other female convict. There are no other convicts in the tank, so it is definitely the G. Brasiliensis. One of these times the eggs will make it, kinda tempted to remove the eggs from the parents and see how they do this time....

Please do, if nothing else it would prove that the Brasiliensis can hybridize.

I'm sure I have read of a geo crossing with something unrelated somewhere and the eggs did hatch. Defo remove them and see if you can get some fry. Would be very interesting.

I'm a little low on tank space right now, I've only got a 2.5, a 2 hex and a 55 empty. I'm not sure I have all the required accutrements for the 55, but I might be able to work something out with something. I'll try to get that done today, need a job for more tanks!

Okay, scrounged enough stuff for a very bare 55 gallon. Going to put a divider in to keep the fry concentrated, so, should I move the parents as well? I don't think I should, but I've never incubated eggs seperate from the parents before.

I would give the eggs a shot by themselves first, so the parents don't eat the eggs.

Well, Insofar as I was able to determine fro this spawn, the eggs were not fertile. They looked good, but never did progress. eventually, they all turned white and fungused.
