Can I give you a tip? Use powerheads or circulation pumps.

Especially if you have large tanks or any tank for that matter, that may not get enough water circulation in areas. I like the hydor koriallia line (not sure if thats the spelling) but any good pump really would work.

In fact, and I dont do this, but i think it would be great for our freshwater fish if one employed wave maker units tied to multiple pumps like saltwater tank keepers do. I think that might provide good exercise and dead-spot prevention. Besides in rivers and lakes i'm sure there are water surges and variable currents.

The pumps I use point directly at the surface, to add in circulation near the top.

Just a tip i thought id pass along if you've never considered it.

+1

I have 2 in my 120. A maxijet 1200 pointed towards the surface and a koralia 425 halfway down, pointing toward the gravel. My fish likes to hang out by the flow there. :)

I've often thought of getting one for my 200G to help prevent dead spots in the tanks circulation, but so far never got around to buying one since my puffer doesn't seem to care too much for strong currents in the tank, and they aren't the cheapest things over here...

i hate looking at equipment inside my tank and for this reason i
dont and hate using any inside of them and hence run a closed
loop system on all my tanks minus one which i have a air stone
in, in a planted tank so it's well hidden. close loop system rocks!

I have a sump, so there's plenty of oxygenation of tank water. I DO, however, use a circ pump in my sump. It's kinda staganant in there, so I put a cheap marineland power head in there the other day actually.

I need a cheap, and very quiet, powerhead, if anybody has any recommendations. The Marineland is kinda loud. I don't like that. As much time and effort as I've put into making this tank run quiet, I can't abide the last finishing touch making as much noise as the Marineland does.

Hydor koraillia - whisper quiet.

The flow is very gentle from a hydor, its like a wide-mouthed flow if that makes any sense.

Agreed, powerheads are great to use to prevent dead spots, they also excersise fat fish :).

All my equipments are hidden behind driftwoods, I don't view my tank on side so as front view I saw nothing but drifwoods and my plants :) I don't need alot of current so I'm using 2 aquaeon 700 circulation 1 point up to the surface and 1 slightly point down toward the substrate along with 4 return outputs from my filter with same setup like the circulation powerhead.
