Cool Trick For Oil Slick

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
None of my tanks has any sort of oil slick on the surface. No overflow, but has good current.
Also want to add, I feed NLS pellets 99% of the time with live/frozen once in awhile, and I rarely put my hands into the water for fear of contamination.

Tank has a hob and a Can on it, no over flow. Seems the intank skimmer things would need a pretty constant water level. I don't have a topper on my tank so water drops very quick.

The skimmer's top piece floats and has about 2" of tracks to keep it in place. You position it so the top is pretty much fully extended when full and as the water drops it just sinks with it. I never had an issue with mine running dry with just regular weekly water changes.

My tanks surface mostly cover with dirt overtime lol I don't use cover lid on my tank, I don't have issue with fishes jumping out of my tank...at least not yet!

I've lost a number of fish over the years that decided they wanted to fly.....even though I've always had glass covers.....they seem to find an opening just big enough to fit through

I think most likely I got big leaf plant like lotus and Pothos on top my tank, it's might create an invisible border to stop my fishes jump out of tank? :) also, most acrylic aquarium has some kind of cover on top around the edges, most fish tend to jump when they ran to the glass and no where else to go then they would jump from there (that's my experiences with skittish fishs like ATF and Arowanas but none of them make their way out of tank).

Just wanted to hop back in here after purchasing a Ehiem 350 Skim, and have to say, best investment ever... Takes care or surface slicks like no tmr... Took 10-15 min for my surface to become crystal clear

I never knew these existed. Im gonna pick one up for sure. Ironically my 90g is crystal clear on top but the sump is fairly oily.

I've got a couple surface skimmer attachments from sunsun canisters that I dont use that I may try to attach to a tiny power head for applications where asthetics aren't crucial.

^ thats was my thought, considering how much paper towel you need to use over time, i might as well have gotten this and be done with the hassles...
