Is it possible to breed months 10 months old male RD FlowerHorn with my 7 month female Herichthys Carpinti ?

If yes, can anyone help me by answering some of my questions...and please shere your exp if you have tried any of these sort of project.

1. The male FH is aggressive, how to introduce the female?
2. How do I know they are ready to breed?
3. How would the fry would look like ?

Some more info about the candidates :D

The FH is of 9''-10'' in size and has been raised in a 80G tank, he does not play nice with other fishes. I have tried to keep him in my other community tank...result...death of a aggressive red devil, and my big oscar getting his ass kicked.

The H. Carpinti is in my 125G community tank with two big oscar and a baby convict. It is a peaceful tank with the tiger oscar as boss, and this H.Carpinti do not fight but can hold her ground.

Somehow I am unable to upload pics, but will try later to upload the pic of both.

Yes.

1. Use a divider.
2. The female's tube will drop.
3. Couldn't tell you that for sure but they'll probably kind of have the FH body shape but with more pearls and less red. They'll look like something that is RD X Texas.

Below is the picture of the Carpintis and the FH, though the FH pic is old. When th pic for the FH was taken he was about 7'', but now he is almost 10''
Do I keep any clay pot or stone slab in the tank...

To answer the thread title: Yes, FH & Carpintis can be crossed.

As far as your next questions:

1. Make sure you put up a secure divider (I have seen aggressive fish go thru a divider to kill a potential mate).
2. Keep the water pristine, the temp up, and feed quality food...Youll see them paying more attention to each other through the divider. Female will start cleaning nest sites, and breeding tubes will drop.
3. It's a roll of the genetic dice...That is, if the male is even fertile. There is always the chance that Male FH are infertile.

You can also make a hole in divider that only the female can fit through. That way if the male starts getting aggressive she can retreat to her side of the tank and he can't follow. Right now I'm trying my male fader and female unfaded RT. I keep the clay saucer on males side. Already laid eggs once but wasn't successful. May not happen first few tries or as above may not happen at all.

The method brz gave is the best method imo... Its the only way I breed... Small holes in a divider... maybe 4 of them that only she fits through... Give his 75% of the tanks and divide 25% for her to be safe from him... Use as many suction cups as you can so he dont ram the divider down and kill her. Just FYI though... This cross is a step backwards for your FH.
