Is Breeding FlowerHorn with Herichthys Carpintis ... possible ??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
basically FH's are hybrids that have then been line bred for generations (fish generations)
your fry will have more pearls but probably less red- I wouldn't say it's a step backwards however if you breed (for example) a KK to a Synspilum, Capintis or what ever- it's offspring will not be King Kamfa anymore. To a flowerhorn purist this is not ideal. To a cichlid purist FH's aren't ideal either so really to each their own. Just keep in mind you gamble with recessive genetics when you play mad scientist- and results are never typical...lol

Have moved the carpintis with the FH, for 4 days now with a glass divider, no sign of tube dropping or breeding behaviour. The FH is still super aggresive towards the Carpintis.
Looks like the FH just do not like any company, and keeps on banging on the divider.
So have gone to the local LFS and got a young Red Devil/ Midas cross, wil upload the pic. The RD looks like a male, but not sure.
If pairing is not successful between the FH, will try to pair the Red Devil with the Carpintis.

I would give it longer than 4 days to get used to one another if you really want to try them together. Make sure the divider is secure though. Even after mine pair the male can still be aggressive toward female. Last time I thought they were getting along I took the divider out after she laid eggs and he beat her up pretty bad. Now I leave divider in all the time.

Any thing that can trigger spawning ??
I do 40% WC every week, and feed them with Humpy Head, Market Prawn and keeping the tank temp at 27-28C...what else can be done ?
Just keep waiting now ....

they only need to get accustomed to each other
and surely the female's tube will drop when she is ready
so do not lose hope so easily
