Just FYI , u mentioned micros would be too much . Argus gets just as big so that platinum would be a bad choice.
You do know your emperor's are also a giant species right? It's not a rare emperor it's The standard juvie coloration to me ,not that their is anything wrong with that they are highly variable and all look great as adults but it will get big fast , comparable to the micros and argus.
EDIT: oops just realized you posted those pics of adults lol obviously you saw the size lol
I have had Micros growing up and no Snakeheads possess the personality, speed, agility, timing and vigor of Channa Micropeltes.
My 5-6 inches Emperor Snakehead personality is nothing like the Micros of 3 inches long that I had and grew from. So I know that I can't handle a Micro now even though a Marulioides or Argus may grow just as big.
And again on rarity, in Malaysia usually you see the yellow variant Emperor Snakehead which is cheaper in price compared to the one with more pattern and colouration. I came across babies of both the light yellow variant sold at 4 Ringgit Malaysia and the dark coloured one sold at 12 Ringgit Malaysia. They are truly different. I never knew about this. I thought there was only one type of Emperor Snakehead?
Thank you for the link of the thread. And I will reconsider the Cichlids. How do you think a Marulioides will do with other channa species? I've seen videos of them kept with Micropeltes.
I meant no offence in saying they are not rare, and your right that rarity is relative. I live in canada ALL snakeheads are extremely rare finds! And I'd consider finding a platinum here rare as well (only ever been imported to once) . i just meant over all they are not as rare as suppliers make them out to be. Still great finds !
I also would recommend against mixing channa species the end result will be dead fish. You'll see all sorts of videos of snakeheads in mixes, or huge fish in ridiculously small tanks that still look picture perfect. Nobody advertises the disastrous results that came after the fish settle into there new home.
Their are quite a few varieties of emperors they have a broad range and localities are all a bit different. I find them all quite attractive , my favorits are the Blue emperors .
Not my pic snatched it from another thread, Blue Emp!
Nothing guarantee with snakehead species, from their view everything else consider a food source to them. You might see they live peacefully for a while then 1 morning the other fish ended up in snakehead belly
