My current aquarium!

Most of the time folks getting dead bulb cause there is no way to tell if the bulb is a live or a dead one by visual appearance, also depend on your tank temp it might take 2 or 3 weeks for a bulb start spout out and depart from there, I ordered some red lotus bulb before and took nearly 3 weeks for it to spout out some tiny leaves.

I very rarely get lily bulbs that do not sprout. Not only do they get large, and bushy, but they're nice to look at, and that's why they're my favourite!

If I were you, I'd put a black background. You can get just a black piece of paper and tape it to the outside of the back glass. That will make a huge difference. The DW is very cool.

I've considered even painting the back of the aquarium black, like I have seen several people on this forum do.

i have never had luck with growing water lilies from bulb packages. maybe the ones around here are too old??? let us know how that turns out. i bought a couple banana plants about 6 months ago, i think they are awesome. they did really well until my snails ate them down to pretty much nothing; nothing left but the "bananas". they are coming back to life so they got to be pretty resilient

Well, fortunately I have no sails in my aquarium. I like them, but because I have plants I cannot have them. I can't seem to find any banana plants around here.

Nice setup I like planted setups with lots of cover.

Thank you!

I think all I have got is dead bulbs. tried doing it several different ways... my temp is a constant 78 F. have tried floating, completely submerged, tied to rocks to anchor them to the substrate, and recently inside of a plastic bag with minimal moisture (ive had terrestrial lilies and irises sprout this way). the results are always the same, no growth what-so-ever and most of the time they just completely mold over... however I have bought aponogeton bulbs from walmart and they sprouted...

Awesome! Thank you!

How does the male betta do in that big tank?

Very well, the angelfish do not bother him at all, and he occasionally flares at the hatchetfish. Overall he seems happier than most bettas I see.

jstanley wish you the best of luck with your snail war, have you tried assassins snails?

have not tried assassins yet. I think that is my next go to, but do not know anything about them... I bought some black khuli loaches about a month ago thinking "since khulis are loaches they will put a dent in the snails". I've read mixed emotions on them, from my experience so far they haven't done anything yet. so I am stuck baiting an area of the tank and hand removing them

Dwarf puffer fish! Get 1 or few of them and your tank will be clear of snail within few days if not few hours, they are notorious snail eating machine.
