All this time I didn't get the connection between the two objects and I'm someone who used a pencil to wind those tapes plenty of times back in the day....embarrassing lol.
Lol, noooo the pencil wasn't used for rewinding, worse case scenario you flip the tape around and FF for a quick rewind. The pencil was used when the actual ribbon or "tape" was malfunctioning and coming out of the case, youd stick your pencil in a wind your noodle back in

Yeah that's it.I didn't mean that I was rewinding the tape but when we used the pencil to pull the tape back in we called it winding...I only had to flip the tape for a rewind when the player had auto reverse which was a feature that I didn't care for.
That sounds like a pretty cheapo Walkman.Did it at least have an eject button to open the door?
